AV Week Activities 2012

It’s time for AV Week again, and we’re doing things a bit differently this year. In 2011, we sent a group of Draper employees to meet with different classes from our local vocational school. This year, they are coming to us, the Mecca of projection screens. For those of you that have visited Draper before, you know that I’m trying to make Spiceland, IN sound more exciting than it really is…especially for a bunch of high school students. We’ll start with a brief introduction and the company history. Then we plan to break in to focus groups – Pre-Engineering, Computer Operations, Marketing, and Graphic Design. Draper folks from each discipline will speak with the students on subjects ranging from educational requirements and potential pay ranges in their general fields to what it takes specifically to work at Draper and/or in the audiovisual industry. We’ll end the sessions with a plant tour.

In all seriousness, Spiceland may not be very exciting with our one flashing stop light, general store, and small corner post office, but our plant tour is very impressive. And I work with some great people. I have no doubt that they will impart their knowledge on the students in an impactful way. That’s the goal, right? To light a spark in future AV Geeks like ourselves? Stay tuned for the rest of the story after October 19th. It’s sure to be a good one.
