Today Draper’s National AV Consultant Manager is the subject of Why Draper. Steve Cook hasn’t been at Draper as long as some, but he has already had a big impact on us–despite his “Bahston” accent!

How did you come to be working at Draper?
I spent most of my career working for projector manufacturers and had a very good relationship with the screen manufacturers. In 2009 I made a jump to the screen side of the industry working for another screen manufacturer. By 2012 that was not working out; and, coincidentally, I got a call from people I knew at Draper asking if I would be interested in coming to work with them supporting consultants, getting involved with some product development, internal education and helping liaison with the projector manufacturers. The timing was good. I always enjoyed dealing with the people at Draper, and the position was a great fit.

Year_of_Draper_Steve_CookWhat do you like best about your job?
I’m an engineer and like helping people figure things out. So working with designers is where I spend a lot of my time, helping them figure out the more complex projects. I also have some great relationships with consultants and other people that I have known for years, and it’s nice to work with people you like.

What are some of your funniest moments at Draper?
No specific moment. There is a great group of people at Draper, and they like to have fun.

What do you like to do in your time away from Draper?
I spend most of my time off with my family. Some of the things I enjoy doing are camping, hiking, skiing, and working out at the gym.

Tell us about your family:
My wife. Paulette, has a career as a court reporter and is very busy between that and keeping things under control at home, especially with me traveling a good amount for work. I have two sons, Justin and Zach. Justin is already in college, just finishing his sophomore year at Roger Williams working toward a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management and a minor in business. Zach starts college in the fall at Bryant University working toward a bachelor’s degree in Finance.
