Draper has announced the appointment of Harold Seib to the position of Engineering Manager for the company, effective immediately. Harold is already a familiar face to Draper employees—he is currently Draper’s Solar Control Systems Technical Manager.

“We’re pleased that Harold has accepted the position as Draper’s Engineering Manager,” Company Vice President Mike Broome said in making the announcement. “He is not only a very able and creative engineer, but he has excellent communication skills and several years of management experience with previous employers. The engineering department will definitely flourish under his supervision.”

While Harold is already a familiar face here at Draper, he’s not well known to most of our extended Draper family. That’s why we are focusing on Harold in this week’s Why Draper spotlight.

How did you come to be working at Draper?
I was working for a scissor lift company when I heard of Draper. I actually meet with Jentry Wittkamper, Export Manager, to discuss that company making a small TV lift for Draper. That idea did not end up working out but I was impressed with what I saw and heard about Draper. Shortly after that, my employment was coming to an end as that company was being sold and the facility was being closed. During this closure, I saw an ad for a product development engineer at Draper and applied. What blessed timing …

What do you like best about your job?

Working in the engineering department has been wonderful. The group of guys I work with are very knowledgeable and always have Draper’s best in mind. I also really appreciate the support I have received from upper management and the owners. There has never been an issue where I could not find support from both of these groups.

What are your thoughts on your new job at Draper? Are you excited?
Draper’s Engineering Manager plays a very important role in the future of the company. From working with the Sales Department to make sure we have the right products with the right options, to working with the production group to make sure we can produce the best quality product at a competitive price, the engineering department touches every aspect of the Draper business. I am looking forward to providing what I can to make sure Draper succeeds in being an innovative leader in the projection screen, window covering/solar control, and gymnasium equipment industries. I am really excited about our future and growth here at Draper.

What are some of your funniest moments at Draper?
I was visiting a supplier in Europe with Clint Childress, our Solar Control Technical Specialist, and Chris Field, a Draper Manufacturing Engineer. Clint was in charge of renting the car and we ended up with a small sedan that was a stick-shift. Clint said he use to have a jeep that was a stick so this was “NO PROBLEM.” Well…we spent the first two days on our trip being the laughingstock of drivers on the autobahn because Clint could not find first or second gear. He would floor it and start of off in third gear … and needless to say the underpowered European sedan would sound and look awful as the car “bucked and jumped” to get going in that high gear … it was embarrassing. As you could guess, we still laugh and give Clint a hard time about it. Oh, he did finally find first gear on day three.

What do you like to do in your time away from Draper?
IMG_20150620_200729_083Youth activities!!!! I have three kids that are very involved in sports and extracurricular activities so that occupies most of my free time. My wife and I also own a horse farm so there’s always a fence to be fixed or a pasture to mow.

Tell us about your family:
My wife Heather and I have three wonderful children; Lauren, a senior, Leah, a freshman and Landon who is in third grade. Lauren is our singer and she is involved in show choir and track. Leah is our basketball player. She plays on numerous Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) teams year around along with her school team. Landon loves all sports and is currently playing baseball and football at the same time. So needless to say, there’s always a game or practice for one of them. We are members of St. Michael Church and are active in church and youth activities there as well.
