If there’s one thing people in the audiovisual industry love as much as technology, it’s talking about technology. And, being a group of technically adept people, this has led to the creation of a number of excellent podcasts covering AV news.

Here are a few AV podcasts #AVTweeps should definitely add to their podcast list:

AV Smackdown
Take two of the industry’s best-known personalities and thought leaders, choose relevant and sometimes controversial AV topics, and bring in an outside guest moderator, and you have AV Smackdown.

The Smackdown is not as violent as it sounds. Chris Neto and Mark Coxon resort only to mental and verbal sparring, addressing collaboration, video, audio, software and hardware, projection and display solutions, and other relevant topics.

They have a fun time, while trading opinions about creating experiences, tech failures, and the evolving role of integrators, to name a few.

AV Insider
Gary Kayye’s rAVe Publications is one of the original innovators in AV podcasting and other digital media. Having been around for a while, rAVe has a lot of podcast offerings to explore, but a great place to start is with AV Insider. Host Johnny Mota hosts this weekly program, interviewing industry experts about their companies, products, and backgrounds. It’s a good way to get to know people in AV, how the industry works, and what solutions are out there.

Johnny is well-known in the industry as a leader in the use of social media, and he started the hashtag for the online AV community, #AVTweeps.

You can subscribe to AV Insider or listen on the rAVe website. Click here to visit rAVe and explore their many other podcast offerings.

AV Week
AV Week is produced by AVNation, a more recent addition to online media in the AV world. AV Week addresses weekly AV news through discussions with guest hosts from the industry. Guests may include manufacturers, integrators, programmers, technology managers, and AV reporters. Some of us from Draper have been featured.

AVNation founder Tim Albright hosts AVWeek, dropping a new post every Monday. You can subscribe using your favorite podcast app or listen on the AVNation website. Click here to visit AVNation and check out their many podcast offerings.

The AV Life
The AV Life This is the main AV industry podcast produced by Corey Moss, owner at Convergent AV. Each week, Corey, or his partner Katye McGregor Bennett, host a plethora of guests to talk about all things AV. Corey, Katye and their co-host Crew of industry and other tech professionals carry on a weekly conversation with people from inside and outside the AV industry. Often there are several guests (10 to 14 total participants at times), giving this podcast a fun and family-type vibe. This can mean a longer podcast listen, but it allows a deeper dive into the issues and elicits a nice variety of opinion. The AV Life is one of several podcasts from Convergent AV. The others take a similar approach to covering various aspects of AV.

AV Shop Talk
AV Shop Talk is a monthly, independent podcast geared toward systems integrators and other audiovisual professionals.

Host and producer Nate Schneider (CTS-D) is an industry veteran. He’s currently an AV System Designer specializing in medical AV design for integrated operating rooms.

As with other AV podcasts covered here, AV Shop Talk features interviews with subject matter experts from the AV industry. He approaches each subject in a personal way that will connect with integrators and other “boots on the ground” pros.

Nate also hosts how-to AV and non-AV videos on his YouTube channel.

You can subscribe to AV Shop Talk with your favorite app and click here to listen on the show’s website.

AV+
This mostly weekly podcast is produced by industry publication Commercial Integrator. The show is called AV+ because its creators don’t feel “AV” adequately covers the systems integration industry. Today’s AV pros need to know about more than audio visual technology these days. They also need to “do” IT.

AV+ is hosted by CI web editor Adam Forziati. He interviews well-known AV industry insiders about control, IT, security, digital signage, live sound, industry events, and trends, and drops in other news segments as well.

You can subscribe to AV+ through your favorite app or listen to episodes online.

We’ve pointed out a few AV podcasts, but there are many other good ones out there. Which ones have we left out? Share your favorites in the comments section below. And happy listening!
