Whether we’re talking about food, consumer products, or building materials, transparency matters. Whatever people buy, they want to know what’s in it. Such transparency helps architects and designers make sustainable design choices.

As part of the drive toward transparency, there are also calls for window shade products with a limited number of ingredients. To meet this need, Draper offers window shades made with the latest addition to Mermet USA’s GreenScreen® line of recyclable fabrics.

GreenScreen® Nature™ is made from 100% fiberglass yarns in a mock-leno weave designed to mimic the look of a leno or cross weave.

“Product transparency and sustainable design are extremely important, and we’ve been getting more and more requests for products with a limited number of ingredients,” said Jeff Miller, solar control product manager for Draper. “Having GreenScreen Nature in our arsenal of shading solutions helps us provide architects and designers with a product that has a limited number of material ingredients and satisfies sustainable building design.”

Another key sustainability advantage of GreenScreen Nature is its inherent fire resistance. As a 100% fiberglass shade material, GreenScreen Nature does not require additional FR additives to make it resilient towards burn and flame.

GreenScreen Nature is rated and certified GREENGUARD and GREENGUARD Gold Indoor Air Quality Certified, RoHS Compliant (free of heavy metals), Fire Retardant (NFPA 701-10 TM#1), (California U.S. Title 19, and CAN/ULC-S109 Small & Large Scale), Fungal Resistant (ASTM G21), and Bacterial Resistant (ASTM E2180). The fabric is also 100% recyclable, PVC-free, halogen-free, and Red List compliant with a health product declaration available.

GreenScreen Nature also reflects up to 61% of all solar energy, blocking unwanted heat, visible light, and UV radiation. Its neutral, mineral-toned palette is available in a 5% openness and offers seven colors: sable, charcoal, dark grey, light grey, pearl, linen, and white.

Draper also offers shades made with the other GreenScreen fabrics. GreenScreen Evolve® is a 100%, non-PVC warp knit polyester shade fabric that contains a minimum of 78% Repreve® fibers made from 100% recycled post-industrial fiber and consumer plastic waste. Evolve is Cradle-to-Cradle Certified™–Bronze and uses up to 14 recycled water bottles per yard.

GreenScreen Revive® is also constructed with 100% polyester yarn made from recycled water bottles and post-consumer plastic waste. Revive is PVC-free and Cradle to Cradle Bronze Certified™.

All three fabrics qualify for Mermet’s GreenScreen Recovery Program. For details on this program, click here.
