If there’s one lesson the rest of the world can learn from Draper’s custom audiovisual solutions initiative, it’s this: the power of partnerships.

Many things contribute to the building of a good business partnership. In the case of Draper’s relationship with Barco, timing was a significant factor.

Our two evolutionary paths crossed at Integrated Systems Europe in February. We were invited to meet with Barco and discussed the possibilities of partnering. The first task involved developing a practical Barco UniSee® video wall trim solution.

When Barco introduced the UniSee® in October 2017, it transformed the LCD video wall experience. Barco UniSee provided unmatched installation ease and uniformity with a stunning image. Barco’s mounting system allowed for the thinnest bezel in the market. The UniSee mounting system requires a frame around it because mounting hardware sticks out in all four directions. The development of trim a solution was being left to the market.

The custom AV design teams from Draper and our Swedish subsidiary, SMS Smart Media Solutions, began collaborating on a solution. We needed to work quickly because there was already great interest in the market. We developed new design processes and pathways and together came up with SmartTrim™ for Barco UniSee.

Patent-pending and design-protected, it provides a simple and elegant trim remedy for a wide range of standard and custom Barco UniSee configurations. Utilizing the existing Barco UniSee wall cross mounts, the trim clicks securely into place with magnets to cover and protect the Barco UniSee wall mount. It comes standard with a textured matte black finish, or optional white and other powder coat colors. A variety of custom colors, wood veneers, and laminates allow the trim to match most any new or existing installation environment.

Barco worked closely with Draper and SMS on the project.

“At Barco, we are always looking for ways to enhance our products and the user experience,” said Tyler McDonald, strategic alliance manager for Barco. “By working with Draper, we accomplish both. Draper SmartTrim is an excellent trim solution that brings great added value to Barco UniSee and our joint customers.”

Barco is a well-known name in the AV industry, starting out in 1934 assembling radios from American-made components. Today Barco display solutions include a wide range of projectors and flat panels and they are working more with partners to produce transformative AV-centric experiences.

At the same time, Draper has been evolving, developing industry-leading products, and increasing our capabilities by providing custom audiovisual solutions.

As our partnership with Barco continues, look for even more developments in the near future.

“We look forward to helping further the tremendous success of Barco UniSee video walls with SmartTrim,” said Kevin Barlow, director of business development at Draper. “And, we plan to expand this strategic partnership by creating additional AV hardware solutions which support the Barco team globally.”
