Glare and solar heat gain can be a real problem in both commercial and residential spaces. One of the best ways to stop solar heat gain and glare is to keep sunlight from hitting the glazing in the first place. With more and larger areas of glazing being used in construction, Draper® has expanded our offering of exterior window shades to handle bigger window openings.

Exterior Motorized FlexShade® XL
The wall- or ceiling-mounted Exterior Motorized FlexShade® XL window shade is offers sizes up to 16 feet (488 cm) wide and 11 feet (335 cm) high, depending on the shade fabric. To reach across those wider windows, the Exterior Motorized FlexShade XL utilizes a 5-inch (13 cm) headbox with an integrated cradle support system. This allows wider widths and minimizes deflection. The Exterior Motorized FlexShade XL is powered by an RTS motor with a built-in radio transmitter for wireless remote control.

The hem bar is secured using cable guides, ensuring the fabric panel remains steady when the shade is deployed.

The Exterior Motorized FlexShade XL isn’t the only exterior shade in our toolbox, however. Draper has solutions to fit a variety of circumstances.

Exterior Motorized FlexShade®
For commercial or institutional settings with windows up to 11 feet wide, the Exterior Motorized FlexShade® combines convenience and ease of use with a simple wall switch or remote. The square headbox presents a low profile at 3-5/8 inches wide x 3-5/8 inches high (92 mm x 92 mm) so it will fit in just about anywhere. A weighted hem bar stabilizes the shade during deployment, but side channels and cable guides are optionally available.

FlexShade® ZIP
The FlexShade® ZIP exterior shading system prevents heat from entering a building, but it is also perfect for outdoor covered spaces such as garages, porches, or commercial food service areas. It softens harsh glare to provide a more comfortable environment. The zip detail in the shade stops the fabric from being pulled out of the side channel. Cushioning pads dampen the movement of fabric under wind load and panels are held in place.  The ZIP system has been wind tunnel tested and protects against wind and insects to create a more pleasant outdoor experience. It also prevents rain misting from the side into outdoor seating areas. Available up to 16 feet wide.

FlexShade® ZIP XL
The FlexShade® ZIP XL provides the same benefits as the FlexShade ZIP, but in sizes up to 25 feet wide. This large outdoor shade utilizes a headbox with an integrated cradle support system to allow wider widths and minimize deflection. Zipped fabric panel edges are welded and held inside inner channels in the side guide. For added fabric protection FlexShade Zip XL can be paired with an Obstacle Detection Motor.
