Matt Schultz is Draper Regional Manager for the southeastern United States. When Matt isn’t on the road, he seems to be doing some outdoor activity.
How did you come to be working at Draper?
I was working in the pro shop at Westwood Country Club in New Castle, Indiana, and decided I wanted to do something different. I was talking to one of Draper’s Regional Sales Managers, Todd Garner, at a fifth and sixth grade basketball game and he encouraged me to send in my resume to Draper. After about six months and numerous interviews, I was hired to help out with shade and screen quotes. Then about a year after that, I was offered my current position as Contract Regional Sales Manager for the Southeastern United States.
What do you like best about your job?
I enjoy the relationships and friendships I have built up over the last 10 years with my customers. And traveling throughout Florida during the winter months is not a bad thing either.
What are some of your funniest moments at Draper?
At an NSSEA trade show, Neal Turner, our Gym Equipment Product Manager, was trying to throw a small foam basketball that we had as a giveaway to a dealer. He threw it a little too hard and at the last second it curved away from our dealer and hit a lady right in the back of the head. It was one of those times you know you should not laugh, but I couldn’t help it.
What do you like to do in your time away from Draper?
I enjoy being outdoors. I enjoy fishing, hunting, and golfing when I have the chance. I have also made two homemade BBQ smokers in my spare time and would like to enter a BBQ competition someday.
Tell us about your family.
I would like to thank my lovely wife Katie for being supportive and understanding that I have to spend a lot of time away from home to do my job. I couldn’t do it without her.
