When a company plays an active role in the local community, those efforts benefit the company itself and, more importantly, the people living there.
That’s one reason we were proud to be one of the sponsors of this year’s Spiceland Cares Day, an annual event in our hometown hosted by a volunteer group called Spiceland Cares.
“It began as a way to involve the whole community for one day a year in a group effort to give back and help beautify Spiceland,” said Spiceland Township Trustee Donna Tauber, who is also a member of the board for Spiceland Cares. “Past projects have included painting curbs and cleaning sidewalks, creating a walking bridge in the park, building and painting wheel chair ramps, helping our elderly and shut-ins with projects such as window-washing and yard work, cemetery and park cleanup, dusting bookshelves in the library, and many other projects. These projects have also instilled pride in our community.”
Spiceland Cares Day began in 2012. It was initially organized by Tauber, town board member Pam Stigall, and volunteers on the Spiceland Cares committee. Since that initial project day, the group has taken on more events. They include bringing Santa to Spiceland, sending cards or treats to shut-ins during holidays, organizing a Fall Festival, and hosting the Easter Bunny at the Spiceland Library.
“We were happy to support this very worthy local effort,” said Draper president John Pidgeon. “They do important work in the community, and it is gratifying to see the results of that work.”
Spiceland residents have really gotten behind the effort. Spiceland Cares day typically draws more than 50 people out of a population of 800. That’s more than 6% of Spiceland’s total population!
Tauber says more projects are in the works, but support from the surrounding community is important.
“Spiceland Cares operates solely on donations,” Tauber said. “We are in the process of attaining not-for-profit status. We can always count on Draper’s sponsorship as well as several volunteers!”
The next Spiceland Cares Day will be in June 2020. Click here for more information about Spiceland Cares (https://spicelandcares.wixsite.com/cares) or send your donations to:
