In the previous TPMS post, we explained how we create custom interfaces to make controlling shades easier.
Have you ever noticed a large commercial building with window shades that are all in different positions? Or, just as bad – every shade on all four sides is in the same position? These are signs that building occupants are not getting the best performance from the shading system.
One way our Technical Project Management Services team can help fix this problem is by integrating the shade controls with a Building Management System (BMS).
A Building Management System is a control network that manages all of a building’s systems, including HVAC, facades, and more. By integrating the shades into the BMS, we allow them to interact with other systems for perfect shade placement. In essence all building systems work together for maximum efficiency, comfort, and safety.
Seamless 2-way communication with the BMS network using BACnet/IP allows shades to respond to BMS commands and provide real-time status updates. In the event of an emergency, the BMS can even override the shading controls, raising or lowering shades to ensure occupant safety.
Building managers can also remotely monitor and manage shades across multiple spaces from a centralized BMS interface. This allows them to make real-time changes in response to changing conditions.
