In today’s eco-conscious world, making sustainable choices for our homes is more important than ever. One often-overlooked aspect of creating a greener living space is our window treatments. Draper is committed to offering sustainable fabric options that align with our environmental values – and yours.
PFAS-Free Fabrics
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are man-made chemicals that have been in widespread use for decades. While research is ongoing into the side effects of exposure to different PFAS, it is known that some PFAS have health risks – including cancer and developmental issues – even in very small amounts. At Draper, we prioritize your health and the environment by offering fabrics that are 100% free of PFAS. All our fabrics manufactured by Phifer and Mermet USA are PFAS-free, ensuring a safer choice for your home and the planet.
Recycled and Recyclable Fabrics
If your main goal is to keep as much as possible out of the landfill, we have several options for you. Greenscreen Evolve™, Revive™, and Nature™ by Mermet USA are excellent choices. Evolve and Revive are polyester fabrics that contain high percentages of Repreve, a recycled and recyclable material made from water bottles. Nature is made of 100% natural fiberglass, which is naturally flame resistant, Red List compliant, PVC-free, and halogen-free. Additionally, Phifer SheerWeave® Infinity2 is 100% recycled, 100% recyclable, and PVC-free, making it a top choice for eco-conscious consumers.
PVC-Free Fabrics
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is commonly found in many shade fabrics. Although shade fabrics are safe even when PVC is used, we understand that some customers prefer to avoid it. Draper offers a variety of PVC-free shade fabrics that not only reduce the environmental impact but also provide a healthier indoor environment by eliminating the potential for off-gassing of harmful chemicals.
Antimony Trioxide-Free Fabrics
Antimony trioxide is a white, odorless powder used in flame retardants, among other things. While it is effective in its intended use, some customers prefer to avoid it due to potential health concerns. Draper offers a selection of antimony trioxide-free shade fabrics, ensuring you have safe and sustainable options for your window treatments.
Fabrics with DOW ECOLIBRIUM™
DOW ECOLIBRIUM™ is a bio-based plasticizer that is a renewable, phthalate-free alternative. Using this bio-based plasticizer in shade material cuts greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 40% compared to existing PVC compounds. Since it’s mostly derived from non-fossil fuel-based feedstock, it also has a much lower carbon footprint.
Energy-Efficient Shades
Energy-efficient window shades are a great “green” solution for any home. These shades come in many different styles, all of which protect your home’s interior from the temperatures outside. Solar shades are ideal for windows that receive regular bright sunlight. They can greatly reduce cooling needs in the summertime by blocking the sun’s heat and protecting against harmful UV rays.
At Draper, we believe that sustainable window shades are an essential part of a greener future. By offering a wide range of eco-friendly fabrics and materials, we provide our customers with the tools to make environmentally responsible choices.
