What new and improved regulations, updates, and innovations drive child safety standards in the home for 2024?

Draper at Home host Michelle Dawn Mooney discusses the 2024 child safety standards with Ralph Vasami, Executive Director of the Window Covering Manufacturers Association (WCMA), and Clint Childress, the Director of Residential Markets for Draper At Home.

This podcast covers how WCMA collaborates with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to develop and implement these standards. Vasami outlines the three main areas of the 2024 standards:

  • Elimination of Free-Hanging Operating Cords: These are now banned to prevent entanglement hazards
  • Enhanced Retractable Cord Operating Systems: New requirements ensure these cords are rigid, retract fully, and cannot extend beyond 36 inches
  • Continuous Cord Loop Systems: These must now include robust tension devices that are permanently attached and resistant to removal

Childress highlights efforts by Draper and Draper At Home to adapt to these standards, particularly in our roller shade products, by integrating new tension devices and introducing innovative solutions like the Ascend Operator—a cordless manual system. Draper has expanded our range of motorized, cordless window coverings that have achieved the Best for Kids™ certification to assure consumers of their safety.

This episode provides valuable insights into the efforts to enhance child safety through industry collaboration and innovation.
