We strive to be a friendly company, courteous and easy to work with. No one at Draper personified these traits more than our receptionist Sharla Massengale. Sharla joined us in 1995 and first worked in the Mail Room. She became our receptionist in 1999.
It is a rare person who is always in a good mood, but Sharla always was. Ever cheerful and absolutely unflappable, she treated each caller and visitor with courtesy and respect.
Sharla was diagnosed in the Spring with an advanced melanoma, and last Monday it took her life. Our hearts go out to her family members as we share their grief.
One of the things Sharla will be remembered for at Draper is her work in helping to organize our annual Relay for Life fundraising effort for the American Cancer Society. Relay for Life is an overnight community fundraising walk, where teams of walkers camp out around a track and share in food and activities. Sharla was one of our team captains on several occasions, and this year she helped the Draper team raise more than $7000 (to read more about this year’s efforts click here).
If you knew Sharla and would like to honor her memory, consider making a donation to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life in her name.
Thank you John, for such a beautiful tribute to the “voice” of Draper! Sharla was an incredible woman, whose personality reached so many, and anyone and everyone that knew her, loved her! She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten!
I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed talking to Sharla every single day I called Draper. I looked forward to her answering the phones. She was the sweetest, most sincere, down to earth woman. She even told me stories about her babysitting Eric McDaniel a long time ago! She always put a smile on my face when I called. When Eric emailed me the other day to tell me the news, I was devastated. I had no idea she had cancer and was just in utter shock. She will forever be missed and I really wish I could have met her.
Sharla was amazing! She had that infectious smile and bubbly spirit! I was privileged to have known her!
I’m glad I got one last hug the last time I saw her.
We may not be able to touch you again, Sharla, but you will forever touch us. ❤️
Sharla you will be missed dearly! You had a unique way to put a positive spin on everything and that smile of yours was always glowing. I will never forget your infectious personality and caring heart.
I just heard about Sharla today, and I am trying hard to hold back tears, I first met Sharla several years ago and since then I loved like a sister. I will miss her joking with me each time I call she was the joy to start my day. Pleas tell me where I can contribute in her memory.
