Draper’s product engineers never stop looking for ways to make our products perform even better. Our upgrade of TecVision CH1200X ALR to CS1200X ALR (read blog post here) is the most recent example. Here are six more product improvements that take our innovations to the next level.

Video Conferencing Camera Lift-Ceiling
Draper introduced the VCCL-Ceiling as a unique solution to a common problem: where to put a videoconferencing camera. The VCCL-Ceiling placed it right below the bottom edge of the projection screen, and retracted it into a ceiling-recessed housing when not in use. This was a great idea, but we thought there were some improvements to make it even better. By replacing the single folding arm with a scissor-style mechanism, we made the unit more stable and easier to adjust.

Profile+ Projection Screen
The Profile projection screen gave people the look of a flat panel but in larger sizes. A redesign to make the frame lighter, add a zero-edge option, and make it even bigger elevated it to such an extent that we decided to rename it by adding a “+”! You’ll find more information here.

AeroLift Projector Lifts
Our AeroLift series of projector lifts has proven to be very popular since its release—particularly the smallest of the three models. The AeroLift 25 was designed to close to four inches high, the smallest height on the market. But it only had a 25-pound capacity. So we tweaked the design and the renamed AeroLift 35 can lift up to 35 pounds. In addition, all three AeroLifts are now US UL Listed to UL 2442 and Canada UL Listed to CSA C22.2 No. 60065-03, so there are no issues with electrical inspectors after installation.

Nocturne+ Outdoor Projection Screen
This outdoor projection screen lets you bring the home cinema into your yard, screened-in patio, or swimming pool. Earlier this year we redesigned it so it would match our outdoor shade products, which brought with it some other new advantages. The Nocturne+ is easier to install, available in larger sizes, and weather- and insect-resistance.

Tab Tensioning System
Draper used to employ the same methods as other manufacturers to produce the “tabs” in our tab-tensioning system for flexible projection screens. They use adhesive to attach these tabs, which can lead to “popped” tabs. We decided that was not acceptable. So we started cutting the surfaces and tabs on Computer Numerical Control (CNC) cutting tables, folding the tabs to the backside of the screen, and Radio Frequency (RF) welding them. This process creates an incredibly strong bond.

Window Shade Hem Bars
Not every product improvement is a huge change. Sometimes small, subtle improvements or additions can have a big impact.

For example, our standard window shade hem bar is low profile, and designed to blend in with the shade. These options look a bit too “industrial” to some, so we added three options for exposed hem bars with a more elegant look:

  • A 1-1/2 inch x 5/16 inch rectangular hem bar with end caps.
  • A 7/8 x 5/16 inch version that brings the same clean look in a smaller package to residential and well-designed commercial applications.
  • A ¾ inch round hem bar with end caps for another elegant alternative.

These are just a few examples of Draper elevating our products to the next level with changes both subtle and grand. There are also many more to come. Stay tuned!
