Spring is here … and at times it is starting to even feel like summer—YES! Finally! The signs are there: Flowers are blooming, the trees are green, farmers have been out in the fields … and the summer interns have arrived.

Summer interns such as (top to bottom) Hannah MacDonald, Shade Order Entry; Daniel Sitler, Maintenance and Gym Equipment; and Erin Hoodlebrink, AV, serve Draper in many capacities.

Every summer, Draper takes the opportunity to get temporary help in the workforce by bringing in college students. In particular, Draper gives preference to the sons and daughters of Draper employees to help them pay their college expenses.

If you haven’t considered hiring a younger person, you should. We can learn a lot from them. You may not realize you are used to doing something in a certain way; a young person brings a fresh perspective to what you think is working well, and can sometimes make it work even better. They can bring energy, enthusiasm, and new skills that you didn’t realize were missing from your company.

I am proud to say that Draper takes full advantage of our young college students. These kids aren’t just sent for donuts, mowing grass, or serving as water carriers. They help with special projects, pick up extra work in particularly busy areas, and fill in when our full time employees take off for vacations. In return, we help them gain valuable experience. In other words, they contribute!

Overall, Draper is employing 17 college students in both office and factory positions this summer. Many started as early as May, and some will remain as late as the end of August. They are a great help in many ways—and we parents who work for Draper certainly appreciate the opportunity they give our kids to gain experience and earn extra money over the summer.

Thank you, Draper!
