Want to get the most out of InfoComm 2018? Here is some last-minute advice that goes beyond just how to survive the event.

We’ve already shared what to expect from us in this preview, but here are some tips, so you can get the most out of your time at InfoComm in Las Vegas:

Learn from others.
The InfoComm show is North America’s biggest gathering of AV brainpower. Draper and other companies send some of our most knowledgeable AV people to this event. This is a great opportunity to pick their brains, compare notes, and see approaches and company cultures up close. Plus, there are lots of educational and networking opportunities outside the show floor.

Don’t be fooled by the flash.
There’s a lot of flashing light and pumping bass at InfoComm. Exhibitors try to top each other in their efforts to “stand out from the crowd.” There are some cool things to experience in those booths, but some of the best solutions are found away from the noise. This is about creating an AV experience for customers, and sometimes it’s nice to be able to get a vision of that without being overwhelmed.

Think solutions, not products.
The AV industry is evolving. Companies like Draper are moving away from focusing on a product and finding uses for it. Instead, we want to know the needs, wants, and problems of the customer so we can provide a solution. While off-the-shelf products are still a big part of putting together an AV experience, there’s also a growing need for custom and modified solutions for specific problems and applications. Listen for and connect with manufacturers who speak in solutions.

Have a plan.
Make sure you’ve downloaded the InfoComm app. It features an exhibit hall map, and information on all the exhibitors. You can save favorites that you want to check out during the show. It also has a handy show planner. You can set up your show plan from your laptop and when you log in to the app there your plan is, all ready for you!

When making your plan, keep in mind the size of the show floor. Try not to schedule adjacent appointments on opposite sides of the hall!

Watch from home.
If you’re one of those left behind to mind the shop, you can still keep up with all of the show happenings. On Twitter, follow the hashtags #InfoComm18 and #avselfie. Industry leaders, members of the press, and exhibitors all use these hashtags to share what they are experiencing what’s going on. AV news outlets like rAVe Publications record tons of video booth tours and post them. Keep your eye out for those appearing under those hashtags, as well. If you are going, though, be sure to see us in booth C2347!
