There are three general options for LED cabinet mounting:
- Off-the-shelf mounts
- OEM Mounts (made by the LED manufacturer)
- Custom video wall structures
How do you know which type you need? When do you require an OEM or off-the-shelf mount versus a custom mount? That depends on what features you need, and how the LED structure will be mounted.
LED Video Wall Mounting Considerations
There are several things to consider when choosing an LED mount. The main considerations are:
- Mounting Location: Wall, Ceiling, or Floor Stand
- Height of video wall
- Uneven mounting surfaces
- Will it be flat or curved?
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements
- Seismic Considerations
When to Choose an OEM Mount
Only under perfect conditions, with a perfectly flat wall and in a square or rectangular shape, should you consider an OEM mount. While OEM mounts are designed LED manufacturers for their specific models, these mounts are quite limited.
OEM mounts have little or no z-axis (front-to-back) adjustment, so if there is any variation in the mounting surface additional shimming by the installer will be required.
In addition, OEM mounts are not available with a compatible trim kit. When trim is required, it will be designed by a third party and will not be a cohesive unit with the mount.
When to Choose an “Off-the-Shelf” Mount.
An “off-the-shelf” mount creates a semi-universal solution when you are mounting LED cabinets on a flat wall in either a square or rectangular shape. Some of these mounts may require on-site modification, but those manufactured by Draper do not. Draper mounts also have built-in Z-axis adjustment so even if a wall is not perfectly flat no shimming is needed.
Draper off-the-shelf mount choices are:
Foundation ONE
- Compatible with most LED cabinets 600-610 mm thick
- X, Y, and 20 mm Z-axis adjustment
- One bracket per LED cabinet (except for bottom row)
- Designed for installation by single technician
- Adjustable Magnetic Trim — adjusts telescopically to meet the wall
- Stockable, with short lead times
Foundation ORIGIN
- Different versions designed for specific LED cabinet brands
- X, Y, and Z-axis adjustment
- Keyhole wall bracket attachments
- Spring-loaded mounting studs for gentle LED cabinet placement
- Magnetic Trim with alignment pins
When to Choose a Custom Structure
- LED video wall will not be mounted to a perfectly flat wall
- Video wall is not a square or rectangular shape
- Video wall is curved
- Must be ADA-compliant
- Project is in a region with high seismic activity. Such jurisdictions often require a mount to handle or accommodate the acceleration forces during a seismic event, and the design must be reviewed and approved by a licensed structural engineer.
